NodeJS developer refuses to believe that gigahertz means billion hertz

During a heated online discussion in one of Github's many threads, a young NodeJS developer firmly refused to believe that "giga" in gigahertz means "billion". In an emotional tantrum, they could not accept the fact that if giga truly means billion, then a simple consumer laptop could potentially perform multiple billion arithmetic and logical operations each second, which absolutely does not correlate with everyday experience.

Many online support groups for NodeJS developers welcome newcomers following the now popular discussion. Within a safe space, many similar beliefs are tolerated and nurtured. In addition to the gigahertz, it is okay to think that RAM is virtually limitless (that's why they call it "virtual memory"), 5 seconds is "very fast", everybody has a broadband connection, and nobody really likes native OS scrolling behavior.
