Both "Inception" and "Interstellar" were inspired by JavaScript ecosystem
In a recent secret interview Christopher Nolan said that the inspiration for "Inception" and "Interstellar" came from the modern JavaScript infrastructure. Nolan's friend, an experienced software developer, once spent hours explaining to him the intricacies of numerous levels of abstraction and time dilation related to development and deployment of web applications.
"The idea of three levels of indirection and transpiling just to setup the build tool is fascinating to me. It's like a dream within a dream within a dream, and the deeper you go, the more you forget why are you even here," says Nolan.
Contrary to common belief, the "This Little Maneuver's Gonna Cost Us 51 Years" phrase was not inspired by accidentally opening a markdown file in Xcode, but rather by casually deciding to update all dependencies of a rather small JS project and ending up fixing unexpected incompatibility issues.
